Ayampe is certainly a town I want to make it back to. Though I visited on my first trip to South America, it set a great theme for the trip; friendly people, small towns and amazing sunsets. Ayampe is surprisingly easy to reach, just a few hour bus ride up from Guayaquil. There are many direct flights from the Untied States to Guayaquil, or an easy connection in Miami or Mexico City will get you there. If you’re visiting, be sure to check out other great Ruta Del Sol destinations such as Puerto Lopez, Salinas and Montanita. This region of Ecuador has so much to offer travellers and is virtually unknown outside of a few hotspots! Get there before it’s too late!
Looking for a place to stay? La Buena Vida is a beautiful boutique hotel with friendly owners and great food. For something a little more budget friendly, try out the lovely Spondylus Lodge. If you’re looking for true luxury, look elsewhere. Many of the hotels are beautiful, but certainly not 5 star. Head down to Olón just 15kms down the coast for a few more luxurious options.
